Victorian innovations: making a world of difference

Science for the Future is a FREE exhibition that will tour Victoria during 2005-06 to celebrate Victorian innovators and inventions. It explores recent scientific breakthroughs and the possibilities for the future.

Meet the people behind the ideas

During January you have the opportunity to meet the people behind the innovations as they show their product, talk about how it works, what makes it clever and how it may be used.

These sessions are scheduled daily (weekdays) at 12.30pm.

Explore recent breakthroughs at Science for the Future

Sporting Edge – a cooling vest for athletes and smart running shoes with microsensors. Technology – innovations in computer game technology, ultra high speed internet and exploring for natural resources on-line. Body Bits – using the protective properties of milk to prevent tooth decay, making new body parts with plastics and stem cells. Clever Stuff – new breathable contact lens technology, high-tech carbon fibre technology for aircraft, the world’s first polymer banknote. Drugs and Vaccines – a nasal spray vaccine for diabetes, new life saving malaria treatment and a vaccine for hydatids. Environment – ozone friendly alternatives for controlling disease, weeds and pests, sustainable Murray Cod farming and a clever carp trap. Gadgets an innovative miniature endomicroscope, faster Avian Flu diagnosis, sleep disorder diagnosis technology. Tools To Work Smarter – advances in microarray technology, how the forthcoming synchrotron project will enable research. Transport – the by-wire brake is the next step in safe motor vehicle technology and see how accident research helps car manufacturers and road authorities.

Win a ‘Money Can’t Buy’ Experience

Visitors to the exhibition can enter the Science Beyond Tomorrow competition for the opportunity to win a ‘money can’t buy’ experience to go behind the scenes at the Healesville Sanctuary, feed the giraffes at the Melbourne Zoo or tour Melbourne Museum and its IMAX theatre.
