Assessment: Hurdle requirements

Policy

  1. When certain levels of achievement are required in components of assessment in order to pass a unit, this must be clearly stated in the handbook entry for that unit.

  2. Departments are to review the issue of component hurdles in any unit, with a view to increasing their assessment weight if they are compulsory.

  3. In assessment descriptions, terms such as satisfactory or acceptable must be clearly defined.

  4. If, on the basis of a formula, a candidate achieves at least 50% for a unit but performs unsatisfactorily in a hurdle component, then the candidate must be awarded a final unit mark of at least 45%.
