IT Policies within Monash University
Student Internet Reasonable Use QuotasDuring your studies you will be expected to make reasonable use of the Internet for research and communications with academic staff and other students. Internet usage is not free. The Faculty will pay for reasonable Internet access as part of your educational programs. Some uses of the Internet result in very large financial charges to the Faculty and are clearly not part of your educational programs. Internet use which is not directly related to your studies is not permitted. This includes the following:
You can check your internet usage using the Monash ITS Internet Usage tool. Select My Info tab and look for the “Internet usage report” section. The Faculty currently accepts 1 GB (1,000,000,000 bytes) per semester as reasonable use. For the purpose of this policy, the semester periods for 2006 have been determined as: Semester 1 20 March 2006 – 30 June 2006 (billed in early July) Semester 2 1 July 2006 – 15 November 2006 (billed in late November) Any usage exceeding 1 GB will be charged at the end of each semester. Any unpaid debts will be recorded on your student record until payment is made. If your studies require you to access material not normally permitted under this policy, your supervisor/ lecturer must notify the Faculty IT Manager. In these cases the Faculty may recover the cost of this access from the appropriate project or grant account. All users should be familiar with the University's policy on the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Facilities by Students. To obtain more information on how to avoid excessive use, go to: http://www.its.monash.edu.au/students/internet-use/. For queries relating to student internet usage, log a JobDesk request. |
