Enrolment and re-enrolment

2010 Re-enrolment information for current students

re-enrol picture

If you are enrolled in a course that is managed by the Faculty of Science you are required to re-enrol through the University’s Web Enrolment System (WES) between the following dates for the upcoming academic year:

Monday 12th October 2009 and Monday 23rd November 2009
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have read and completed all re-enrolment requirements by the end of the specified science enrolment period. Student Services staff at the Faculty of Science are available to discuss unit selection, course requirements, course transfer or your academic progress. No appointments are necessary.

You are required to re-enrol into units for both first and second semesters. Please ensure that you re-enrol into the correct number of units each semester.

WARNING

Should you fail to re-enrol during this enrolment period you:
  • Will be liable for a late fee of $250.00, or
  • May forfeit your place in a science course at Monash University.

It is recommended that you do not leave re-enrolment until the last day as you may experience WES access issues, require course information or units may have limited places available.

You will receive a transaction number once enrolment via WES has been successful. A transaction number will be displayed and also sent to your Monash email account. It is recommended that you keep these transaction details as evidence of your enrolment /re-enrolment and/or variation of enrolment.

If you do not receive a transaction number you have not enrolled correctly.

It is essential that you check your Monash email account on a weekly basis.

Dates and penalties

12th October 2009 –
23rd November 2009
Re-enrol via WES in a timely manner and no late fee will apply.
24th November 2009 – 18th December 2009 If you have not re-enrolled you must do so now via WES. An automatic $250.00 late fee will apply. If you do not enrol during this period you will lose your place and your course will be discontinued.
19th December 2009 – 6th January 2010 WES closed to students
From 7th January 2010 If you have not re-enrolled, your course has now been discontinued. If you still wish to be considered for re-enrolment you must contact the Faculty of Science directly. You will be required to lodge a written submission outlining the reasons for failing to re-enrol on time. The Faculty will determine if there are any places available for late enrolling students in 2010. If you are permitted to re-enrol an automatic $250.00 late fee will apply.

Failed units

If you fail unit(s) in semester two 2009, which are a pre-requisite or a co-requisite for units that you have enrolled into for 2010 your enrolment in the upcoming units will be shown on your Monash portal as “INVALID”. You must remove all “INVALID” units and replace them with different units.

Course transfer

When applying for a transfer to another course you should re-enrol in your current course as per normal and discontinue your course if you receive an offer for your new course.  Please note applications for course transfer close on 30th October 2009.

Intermission (Leave of absence)

If you wish to apply for intermission you must do so via WES or by submitting an intermission application form to the Faculty of Science during the designated science re-enrolment period. Failure to do so may result in your enrolment becoming INACTIVE and your course may be discontinued for failing to re-enrol.

If you apply for intermission for semester one 2010 only you must still enrol in units for semester two 2010.

Please note: different academic and financial penalties may apply depending on when you apply for intermission. You should refer to the principal dates for more information.

Course discontinuation

If you wish to completely withdraw from your current science course you must do so via WES or by lodging a completed Enrolment Amendment Form at the faculty office. Please refer to the principal dates for cut-off dates for discontinuing your course without penalty.

International students

International science students on a student visa must ensure that they are enrolled in a full time load of 24 credit points (4 units) for each semester to comply with the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) guidelines.

If you do not maintain this full time enrolment you may be in breach of your student visa conditions and may be reported to DIAC.

You must contact the faculty office if you wish to discuss an enrolment of less than 24 credit points in either semester. As an international student you are recommended to check the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) guidelines.

Study abroad and exchange students

Current study abroad and exchange students
If you are currently enrolled in a study abroad or exchange program and will continue studying overseas in semester one 2010 you must contact the Faculty of Science office to advise which units you will be undertaking at the overseas institution.  You must do so as you will not be able to re-enrol into your study abroad/exchange units via WES. You must still re-enrol via WES for semester two 2010 units.

If your semester one 2010 units have not been pre-approved by the faculty, detailed unit outlines must be provided to the faculty in order for credit to be assessed and approved.

Students intending to enrol in a study abroad or exchange program in 2010
If you are intending to enrol in a study abroad or exchange program in 2010 you are still required to re-enrol into units for both first and second semesters at Monash.  Once your study abroad/exchange program has been approved, you will be required to amend and finalise your enrolment prior to going overseas.
