Summer Semester Enrolment 2009/2010
Summer semester
The Faculty of Science will offer a limited number of second year and third year units during summer semester 2009-2010. It may be possible to use summer semester to accelerate your study towards completion of your degree, or as a catch up semester.
Students can commence enrolling into science summer units from the 1st September 2009. Please refer to the table below to check individual unit enrolment closing dates.
Summer semester for the Faculty of Science will officially run over the period from 1 November 2009 to 19 February 2010.
It is your responsibility to check the attendance requirements with the unit coordinator before you enrol as these may vary to the published commencement dates.
For research project units starting and finishing dates are to be negotiated with the unit coordinator. Permission from the school to enrol in research units is dependant on the availability of appropriate supervision and resources. The unit co-ordinator for research units MUST authorise your enrolment by signing your enrolment amendment form.

IMPORTANT: It is your responsibility to confirm that any summer semester units completed will count towards your current degree and that you have met any pre requisite requirements. The pre requisites are outlined in the unit description in the Monash University Handbook. If students have any queries they should contact their managing faculty before enrolling in the summer unit.
How to apply
- Students must have an Enrolment Amendment form signed by the unit coordinator or school/department (signature and printed name required).
- Students must return the signed Enrolment Amendment form to their managing faculty for final consideration and enrolment.
Please note: You cannot enrol for summer semester units via WES. Your summer enrolment details can be viewed on WES once your managing faculty has processed your enrolment. |
Enrolment by non-Monash students
Students who are currently undertaking studies at another institution may also study any one of these units as a cross institutional student (on a non award basis). Please contact the Faculty of Science for information. Please note that most summer offerings will be on a full-fee basis (see below for more information).
Unit cancellations / changes to unit offerings
Every effort will be made to ensure that the units on offer will run. However, units may be cancelled up to one week prior to commencement date if there is an insufficient number of students enrolled in the unit. If a unit is cancelled all students enrolled in it will be advised in writing by the relevant school / department to discontinue their enrolment prior to the commencement date. It is the responsibility of all students enrolled in a cancelled unit to discontinue their enrolment by completing an Enrolment Amendment form and lodging the form with the students managing faculty.
Discontinuation dates
To discontinue your enrolment in a summer semester unit you must complete an Enrolment Amendment form and return it to your managing faculty. Please contact the Faculty of Science first to discuss the financial and academic penalties of discontinuing your enrolment in a science summer semester unit.
Please note: These dates may vary depending on the summer semester offering period and the actual unit teaching start and end dates.
Fees
The University has determined that summer semester units will normally only be offered on a full-fee paying basis with limited exceptions. Units will only be offered on a CSP basis to CSP students where a student could not undertake, or could not have undertaken, the unit during a non-Summer teaching period.
Consequently, the CSP Student Contribution Amount rate will normally no longer apply to any unit taken over summer and therefore CSP students will be charged according to the standard domestic full-fee rate applicable for the unit (ie. 2009 rates for summer A and 2010 rates for summer B units).
Exceptions are decided by the faculty, on a unit by unit basis and not at an individual student level, i.e. individual CSP students undertaking full-fee summer units cannot apply for an individual/personal exception to the full-fee charge rate. These exceptions will apply to the science research project units offered this summer semester period at Clayton and Gippsland campuses and the Field Geology of New Zealand unit (ESC3170).
Please refer to the above table to ascertain if the science unit is being offered on a CSP or full-fee basis for CSP students.
For more information regarding fees and fee rates please refer to the summer semester enrolment fees website.
Results
All summer semester results will be published in early March 2010.
Further information
Should you require further information about any of the units offered please contact the unit coordinator or the Faculty of Science.
